What is collected
If you contact the practice or book a session: your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you choose to write in your message or intake form.
If you become a client: the information needed to provide counselling safely and competently: contact details, emergency contact, relevant history, and clinical notes made during our work together.
If you simply browse this website: nothing that identifies you personally. This site uses no advertising trackers and shares nothing with advertisers.
Why it is collected
To respond to your enquiry, to schedule and document sessions, to issue receipts for your insurance claims, and to meet the record-keeping requirements that apply to Registered Clinical Counsellors in British Columbia. Your information is never sold or rented.
Confidentiality and its limits
What you share in session is confidential. A small number of legal exceptions apply to every counsellor in BC, and they are explained in your first session: a serious and imminent risk of harm to you or another person; reason to believe a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected; and a court order or other legal requirement to disclose.
Outside those situations, information is shared only with your written consent.
How information is stored
Clinical records are kept in a secure, access-controlled practice-management system, with reasonable technical and organisational safeguards against unauthorised access, loss or disclosure. Records are retained for the period required by the applicable regulatory standards and then securely destroyed.
Messages sent through the contact form are emailed to the practice and also kept in the website's own database, so that none is lost if an email goes astray. The website and its database are hosted by Cloudflare, which may store and process this information outside Canada, including in the United States. Messages are deleted from the website once they are no longer needed.
Email and web forms are not secure channels
Please keep messages sent through the contact form or by email general. Email is not encrypted and is not appropriate for detailed personal or health information. Anything sensitive is better discussed in session or by phone.
Your rights
You may ask what personal information is held about you, request access to your own records (subject to the limited exceptions in PIPA), ask for corrections to inaccurate information, and withdraw consent for the collection or use of your information, subject to legal and record-keeping requirements.
Questions or concerns
For any question about this policy or your information, contact the practice through the contact page. If a concern is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, or the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
