OpenTalk Counselling & Wellness

Fees & insurance

What counselling costs, plainly

Everything, including the parts most practices leave off the page.

Individual

$160

per 50-minute session

Couples

$180

per 50-minute session

  • 50 full minutes, not a booking that quietly runs short
  • A receipt after every session, with my RCC number on it
  • The same fee whether we meet in person or online
  • No package to buy and no minimum number of sessions

You may already be covered

Counselling by a Registered Clinical Counsellor is not covered by MSP, but most workplace extended health plans in BC include it. A lot of people find they have had an unused counselling allowance sitting there for years.

Call the number on your benefits card and ask two things:

  1. What is my annual maximum for a Registered Clinical Counsellor?
  2. Is there a per-session limit as well as an annual one?

The exact wording matters. Some plans cover psychologists but not RCCs, and a claim under the wrong designation gets rejected.

Direct billing

Where your plan allows it, I bill your insurer directly, so you only pay whatever your plan does not cover. That runs through TELUS Health eClaims and Provider Connect, which between them reach most of the major carriers in Canada, and I bill Pacific Blue Cross and Sun Life as well.

Whether counselling with an RCC is covered at all depends on the plan your employer bought rather than on the insurer, so it is worth a quick check either way.

Insurers I can bill directly

  • Pacific Blue Cross
  • Canada Life
  • Sun Life
  • GreenShield
  • Manulife
  • Empire Life
  • Desjardins
  • Beneva
  • Equitable Life
  • iA Financial Group
  • RBC Insurance
  • ClaimSecure
  • Johnston Group
  • Maximum Benefit
  • Coughlin
  • Cowan
  • GroupSource
  • People Corporation

Not on the list? Nothing changes except the order of things. You pay at the session, I give you a receipt with my RCC number on it, and you submit it yourself. Most plans pay out within a week or two.

Questions

Fees, insurance & cancellations

Do you direct bill to insurance?

Yes, for most major carriers. I submit through TELUS Health eClaims and Provider Connect, and bill Pacific Blue Cross and Sun Life as well, so you pay only the portion your plan does not cover. If I cannot bill your insurer directly, you pay at the session and get a receipt with my name, RCC registration number, the date and the fee, which most plans reimburse within a week or two of an online submission.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule without charge. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed, are charged the full fee, because the time was reserved for you and usually cannot be filled. Genuine emergencies are handled case by case.

How do I get the free 15-minute call?

Send a message through the contact page, or call or text me. The intro call is not in the online booking calendar, because I like to know a little about what you are looking for before we talk. I reply with a few times that work and we go from there. Full sessions you can book yourself, any time.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I keep a small number of reduced-fee spaces for people for whom cost is a genuine barrier. They are not always available, but it is always worth asking. Mention it on the consultation call and I will be straight with you about what I can do.

How do I pay?

Payment is taken at the time of the session through the secure booking system, which accepts all major credit cards. Your receipt is emailed automatically.

You do not have to know what to say yet.

A free 15-minute call is just a conversation. No cost, no commitment. If I am not the right fit, I will help you find someone who is.
